Alex Garland provides an update on 28 Months Later

May 14, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Back in January, Alex Garland suggested that “serious discussions” had taken place between himself, director Danny Boyle and producer Andrew Macdonald about 28 Months Later, a follow-up to the 2002 horror 28 Days Later and its subsequent sequel 28 Weeks Later. Well, Garland has now provided an update to The Playlist, stating that he’s come up with the story, but won’t be involved beyond that.

“About two years ago, Danny started collaborating on the potential to make Trainspotting 2, another sequel. In that conversation, an idea for 28 Months arrived. I had a sort of weird idea that popped into my head. Partly because of a trip I’d taken. I had this thought, and I suggested it to Andrew and Danny, but I also said I don’t want to work on it. I don’t really want to play a role, and Andrew said, ‘Leave it to me.’ So he’s gone off and is working on it.”

So, it looks like 28 Months Later is still a possibility, but much like the Trainspotting sequel, we might have a long wait ahead of us before it becomes a reality. If at all…
