Jessica Chastain and Daniel Bruhl to star in The Zookeeper’s Wife

August 25, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

The Wrap has revealed that Daniel Bruhl (Rush) and Jessica Chastain (Interstellar) are to co-star in The Zookeeper’s Wife, for which Focus Features has acquired the US distribution rights.

The film is based on Diane Ackerman’s novel of the same name, and is being directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider). It tells the “true story of Antonina Żabińska and her husband Dr. Jan Zabinski, the director of the Warsaw Zoo, who together courageously and creatively used the zoo to help approximately 300 Jewish people escape from the Warsaw Ghetto after the Germans invaded Poland in September of 1939.”

Bruhl will soon be seen as Baron Zemo in next year’s Captain America: Civil War, while Chastain can next be seen in Ridley Scott’s The Martian opposite Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig and Jeff Daniels, which opens in September.
