Nicolas Winding Refn would like to direct a Batgirl movie

It looks like Nicolas Winding Refn is keen to go from female-led horror to female-led superheroes, with The Neon Demon director revealing to Business Insider that he’d like to direct a Batgirl movie.

“God, I would love to make [a superhero movie], it would probably be great fun,” said Refn. “I just don’t know when it’s going to happen. I very much enjoy my freedom, creatively, but I also would love to make one of those big Hollywood films that costs a lot of money and has a lot of people running around with cell phones and all that insanity. What ones are left? You know the one I want to do? I want to make Batgirl. Let’s get Warner working on it.”

The Neon Demon is out now in the States and opens on July 8th in the UK, and features a cast that includes Elle Fanning (Maleficent), Jena Malone (Inherent Vice), Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Desmond Harrington (Wrong Turn), Alessandro Nivola (Selma), Christina Hendricks (Drive), Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Keanu Reeves (John Wick).
