The Angry Birds Movie sequel in development

August 27, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Given that the movie earned almost $350 million around the globe from a fairly modest $73 million budget, it will come as no surprise to hear that development is underway on a sequel to The Angry Birds Movie.

“With the excellent performance of our games portfolio and the fantastic movie, the Angry Birds brand is flying high and we are seeing positive EBIT and cash flow development, while fulfilling our mission to create world class entertainment,” said Rovio CEO Kati Levoranta. “We currently have several exciting new games and other projects in development, including new IP, and we have started planning the sequel to The Angry Birds Movie.”

Based upon the hugely successful mobile game series, The Angry Birds Movie is the second-highest grossing video game adaptation of all-time behind Warcraft, which was also released this year and grossed $433 million. The all-star voice cast included Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader and Peter Dinklage.
