Pierce Brosnan linked to Cable, Highlander trilogy in development, Star Wars updates and more – Weekend News Roundup

February 6, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Rounding up this weekend’s big news stories…

Before we get started, you may want to check out all the Super Bowl spots. You can find them here…

FOX FINDS ITS CABLE?

Over the past few weeks there’s been a lot of speculation that Pierce Brosnan may be set to take on the role of Cable in Deadpool 2, owing to the images shared to social media showing the former 007 alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Well, if rumours are to be believed, Brosnan is indeed the front runner to play Nathan Summers, and his casting could be announced at any time. Read more here.

THERE CAN BE ONLY THREE

The long-gestating Highlander reboot took a huge step forward in November when John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 helmer Chad Stahelski signed on to direct, and he’s been talking in depth about his plans over the weekend, stating that he intends on developing a trilogy based around the full Highlander mythology. So, expect a great first movie, followed by two absolute stinkers. Read more here.

ROBERT ENGLUND’S NEW NIGHTMARE

Okay, so it’s not quite a return to the franchise, but it’s probably as close as we’re ever going to get, as Robert Englund has revealed that he’ll be donning the Freddy Krueger makeup once more for the documentary Nightmares in the Makeup Chair, which Englund describes as “my love letter to the Nightmare on Elm Street series and to practical makeup”. Watch the trailer here.

ROGUE ONE BLU-RAY DETAILS

Attention may be starting to shift to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but we’ll soon be able to add Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to our Star Wars DVD shelf, with the home-entertainment release of the Gareth Edwards-directed Anthology movie reportedly set for April 4th. Check out the Blu-ray steelbook artwork here.

BATTLEFRONT 2 WILL BEGIN TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT

EA left a lot of gamers disappointed with 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront, but the gaming giant is promising to make things right this year with the release of the sequel, stating that Star Wars Battlefront 2 will feature more locations, more heroes, multiple eras, and a single player campaign. You can read their statement here.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEKEND

Now that Star Wars is back with a bang, is it time to reevaluate the much-derided Prequel Trilogy? The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith have been the subject of an enormous amount of hate, but Flickering Myth’s Ricky Church has put up a defence this weekend, asking ‘Are They Really That Bad’? Read his feature here.
