Rogue One’s Diego Luna to star in Scarface as the remake loses its director

February 1, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Remaking classics is pretty trendy as of 2017, and we’ve known for a while that the iconic Al Pacino gangster movie Scarface will be getting the same treatment.

Well now thanks to Variety, we know that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Diego Luna is attached to star in the project. This is good news for fans of Luna and seems like an interesting pick.

Unfortunately, this news has arrived with the announcement that the remake has lost its director.

The Universal re-imagining has apparently lost out on director Antoine Fuqua who has to start prepping for Denzel Washington’s Equalizer sequel.

While this is of course a blow to the project, one finds it hard to imagine Universal will struggle to find a replacement. The word is they have already begun meeting with candidates so production won’t be affected.

The film will be a reimagining of the central immigrant story of both the 1932 and 1983 films while being set in LA and focusing on a Mexican immigrant.

The Wolf of Wall Street’s Terence Winter has written the most recent draft of the screenplay.
