Future DC movies to have both flashbacks and flashforwards

March 9, 2017 by Samuel Brace

A DC Films producer has said that future solo movies in the universe will contain both flashforwards and flashbacks.

2017 will be a big year for the DC Extended Universe; with the already troubled development of The Batman staining the first part of their year, the studio has two very important films in their slate incoming in Wonder Woman and Justice League.

Rather than following the Marvel model of establishing its heroes with solo movies before the big team-up, Warner Bros. has instead opted to use Justice League to introduce the likes of Cyborg, Aquaman and The Flash; however, it seems their subsequent solo movies won’t just be bound to present day, post-Justice League goings on, with the films having the freedom to travel both forwards and backwards in time according to producer Charles Roven who has been speaking to Comic Book.

Roven said, “For example, the Justice League movie will take place in a universe that’s post-Batman v Superman, just like Batman v Superman takes place in a universe that’s post-Man of Steel. When we’re dealing with either The Flash or Aquaman, since they will take place in a universe that has happened after Justice League, the characters and the world will be informed by the movies that preceded them, except that there’s flashbacks or whatever within those particular movies, [and] flashforwards within those particular movies”.

These flashbacks obviously will serve the purpose of quasi-origin stories as the films themselves are detailing these characters in a fully established super-powered world, and already part of the famed Justice League.

To see where the series goes next, check out Wonder Woman when it premieres on June 2 2017.
