Mel Brooks says MGM is interested in Spaceballs 2

May 28, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It’s been teased since the release of the first movie back in 1987, and it seems that Mel Brooks still hasn’t given up hope of making Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money a reality, with the filmmaking stating that the renewed interest in Star Wars may pave the way for the long-awaited sequel.

Speaking at a Q&A for Young Frankenstein, Brooks said that: “Well, you know, I’m doing it. MGM is slightly interested in doing it because of Star Wars, Rogue One, The Force Awakens, the new Star Wars explosion. They think maybe, so we’re talking.”

Brooks has been talking up the possibility of Spaceballs 2 for a couple of years now, but sadly it doesn’t seem to be any closer to coming to fruition.

Still, we do have Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer’s Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens The Last Jedi Who Went Rogue to “look forward to”.
