Rumour: Two new characters from the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff revealed

May 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

As you’d expect with a Star Wars movie, details on the upcoming Han Solo Anthology film are being kept tightly under wraps at Lucasfilm.

We do know that Alden Ehrenreich is playing Han, with Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, and Woody Harrelson as Beckett, Han Solo’s mentor, who may or may be be based on the character of Garris Shrike.

Well, the folks at Making Star Wars have shared a rumour concerning two new characters: first up is ‘Mother Proxima’, who is said to be some sort of puppet, operated by Dave Chapman (one of two operators on BB-8 in Star Wars: The Force Awakens), while another female character, Val, is said to have “top billing”.

The site speculates that Val could be Emilia Clarke’s character, given that she is said to have been cast as the female lead. As for Mother Proxima, it has been suggested previously that Phoebe Waller-Bridge could be portraying a droid, so this could very well be her character.

Han Solo hits theaters on May 25th, 2018 and also stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as the famous smuggler, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Beckett (Solo’s mentor), Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as a droid. Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Thandie Newton (Westworld), Ian Kenny (Sing Street) and Michael K. Williams (The Night Of) have been cast in unrevealed roles. The film is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, best known for helming 21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie.
