Mark Wahlberg doesn’t think Michael Bay will quit Transformers franchise, Transformers 6 not yet plotted out

June 25, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Although Michael Bay has said on several occasions that Transformers: The Last Knight will mark his final outing in the Transformers franchise, this certainly isn’t the first time that Bay has suggested he was calling time on the series, and star Mark Wahlberg isn’t convinced that he won’t be back for the next instalment.

“It’s one of those things where Michael has built this entire universe right, and he will decide what he wants to do and how he wants to do it,” Wahlberg tells Comic Book. “Right now he says he doesn’t want to do another film and he says that after every film because they are so difficult to make and he pretty much has to do it single-handedly, even with all the help that he has because all of the movie is in his mind. So he’ll decide that and I would be hard pressed to see him walk away and put it in somebody else’s control and care.”

Meanwhile, despite hiring a writers room to map out the future of the franchise, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has revealed to Screen Rant that they are yet to decide on the storyline for the sixth instalment of the main series:

“We have some ideas but that may or may not play out in the next movie,” said di Bonaventura. “We’re really waiting to see how the audience responds to this movie and what elements they really love because one of the things we found was – as filmmakers – that there was great freedom suddenly to break sort of the simplistic Decepticons vs. Autobots, and now, Arthurian legend, now Knights, and now humans have a role, and that was really exciting for us so I think we want to keep pushing out. So I don’t think you can anticipate necessarily that we’ll do a movie in sequence.”

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive; theirs, or ours.

Transformers: The Last Knight reunites Michael Bay with franchise veterans Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, John Goodman and Peter Cullen, while new additions to the cast include Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School), Jerrod Carmichael (Bad Neighbours), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Santiago Cabrera (Merlin), Liam Garrigan (Once Upon a Time), Mitch Pileggi (The X-Files) and Anthony Hopkins (Thor: The Dark World). The film hits theaters on June 22nd, 2017.
