We’ve heard a lot from Avengers: Infinity War co-director Joe Russo off the back of Marvel’s panel at the San Diego Comic-Con International last weekend, and now we have a few more comments from the filmmaker about the hotly-anticipated superhero epic – specifically, the comic pairing of Thor and Star-Lord, and the MCU’s big bad, Thanos.
“What’s interesting is that because of the re-toning that Taika Waititi did with Thor: Ragnarok and the direction Thor is heading in as a character, he and Star-Lord were a very surprising combination and a very funny combination,” Russo told IGN. “So I’m excited for the audience to see the two of them together.”
Meanwhile, in an interview with Comic Book, Russo also spoke about their intentions for the Mad Titan: “I wanted to turn Thanos into Darth Vader for a new generation. He’s an incredibly intense character. Sociopathic. He takes no prisoners. I think the audience needs to be prepared when they go see these movies.”

Russo also discussed the film’s narrative, stating that: “Structurally, with this first film, Avengers 3, we’ve been using smash and grab ’90s heist films. There’s a real urgency to the film and it adds a level of excitement and relentlessness to the movie. It’s a lot of divergent narratives coming together into a climax.”

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos.
