Rumour: Sony’s Venom movie to feature She-Venom, and take inspiration from the Ultimate universe

July 13, 2017 by Gary Collinson

We already know that Eddie Brock will be bonding with the symbiote in Sony’s upcoming Venom movie, with Tom Hardy cast in the lead the lead role, but if a rumour from The Hashtag Show is to be believed, he may not be the only host set to feature in the SpiderVerse solo film.

According to the site, Sony and director Ruben Fleischer are currently looking to cast Eddie Brock’s ex-wife Ann Weying, and are seeking actresses in the 25-32 age range. In the comic books, Ann temporarily became a host for the symbiote after being shot by a character called Sin-Eater, which saw her turning into She-Venom. However, it’s unclear whether she’ll serve as a host in the movie.

Meanwhile, the site is also reporting that the movie will take inspiration from the Ultimate version of the character; in this incarnation, the symbiote is not an alien, but rather a biosuit created by the father’s of Eddie Brock and Peter Parker designed as a cure for cancer. Given that Venom is not part of the MCU, and that Spider-Man won’t be making an appearance, it would seem to make sense going with this origin, rather than the traditional alien symbiote.

As always, treat these as rumours until we get further clarification, but do let us know in the comics if you’d like to see She-Venom making an appearance, and whether you’d be happy going down the Ultimate Venom route…

Venom is set to begin production in September ahead of a release on October 5th 2018.
