Rumour: John Cena and Joshua Sasse said to be frontrunners for Shazam

September 6, 2017 by Gary Collinson

A few days ago director David F. Sandberg took to social media to announce that he’s begun pre-production work on Warner Bros.’ DC movie Shazam, and now we have our first casting rumour for the role of Billy Batson’s superhero alter-ego.

According to The Hashtag Show, both WWE star John Cena (Daddy’s Home) and Joshua Sasse (Galavant) are “tentatively the front runners” for the role of Shazam, while a third “dark horse contender” has apparently fallen out of favour. Meanwhile, the site has also shared an alleged synopsis for the movie, which reads:

Based on the DC Comics character “Shazam!” Billy Batson becomes Captain Marvel, the world’s mightiest mortal, when he says the magic word “Shazam! The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes. The wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury.

What do you make of these casting rumours? Who would you like to see taking on the role of Shazam? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
