Director Gore Verbinski exits Fox’s Gambit movie

January 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Well, just when you thought the Gambit movie was finally set to become a reality…

Yes, that’s right – 20th Century Fox and Channing Tatum’s long-gestating X-Men spinoff movie has hit another major roadblock, with director Gore Verbinski exiting the project in what Deadline describes as an “amicable split” due to scheduling issues.

Verbinski only boarded the film in October, taking over the reins from both Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow). Filming was reportedly due to begin in March ahead of a planned February 14th 2019 release date.

So, what does the future hold for Gambit? Will Fox look to bring in another director at short notice and hold firm with its February 2019 date? Given that Disney is in the process of purchasing Fox, any further delay could well spell the end for the troubled project.
