A script for Marvel’s Ironheart appears on the Black List

July 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Well, this is somewhat of a surprise…

The official Twitter account for The Black List – a Hollywood industry resource which ranks the best unproduced scripts – has shared an update for a screenplay called Ironheart by Jada Rodriguez, the description of which confirms that it is based upon the Marvel Comics character Riri Williams.

IRONHEART by Jada Rodriguez was one of the best scripts our readers read last week. https://t.co/cGkwm9RLOW pic.twitter.com/O1khyMnqvO

As That Hashtag Show reports, for an Ironheart script to show up on The Black List, Rodriguez would either need to have acquired the movie rights to the property (highly unlikely, particularly given that it includes Tony Stark), or been commissioned to write the screenplay by Marvel Studios.

This is the first we’ve heard about a potential Ironheart movie, and it seems strange that Marvel would allow the existence of a script to leak via The Black List.

However, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has previously revealed that Marvel has plans to introduce new characters, as well as different incarnations of characters we already know, so it’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility that Riri Williams/Ironheart could be among these.

If you’re not up to date on Marvel comic book lore, Riri Williams was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato and made her debut in 2016. A 15-year-old engineering prodigy, she designs and Iron Man-style suit of armor, which brings her to the attention of Tony Stark.
