Dolemite Is My Name adds Keegan-Michael Key

July 1, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Actor and comedian Keegan-Michael Key has become the latest addition to the cast of the Rudy Ray Moore biopic Dolemite Is My Name, where he’ll portray Jerry Jones, the screenwriter of Moore’s 1975 blaxploitation classic Dolemite.

Eddie Murphy is taking on the role of Rudy Ray Moore, raunchy stand-up comedian Moore, best known for his character Dolemite, whom he took to the big screen in 1975 with a movie of the same name.

Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) is directing Dolemite Is My Name, while the rest of the cast includes Wesley Snipes (Blade), Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine), Mike Epps (Meet the Blacks), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Office Christmas Party) and Titus Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt).

Key is best known for his comedy work alongside Jordan Peele on Comedy Central’s Key and Peele. He’ll next be seen on the big screen in Shane Black’s The Predator, and also has a voice role in next year’s remake of The Lion King from Disney.
