Nicholas Hoult is J.R.R. Tolkien in first trailer for biopic Tolkien

February 12, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Fox Searchlight Pictures has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming biopic Tolkien. Directed by Dome Karukoski, the film stars Nicholas Hoult as J.R.R. Tolkien and explores The Lord of the Rings author’s formative years during the outbreak of World War I and his relationship with his future wife Edith Bratt (Lily Collins); watch it here…

The film explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels.

Tolkien sees Nicholas Hoult joined in the cast by Lily Collins, Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O’Reilly, Pam Ferris and Derek Jacobi. It is set for release on May 3rd 2019 in the UK and May 10th 2019 in North America.
