Batman prequel series Pennyworth adds two to its cast

March 23, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Emma Paetz (Gentleman Jack) and Jessica Ellerby (Lovesick) have become the latest additions to the cast of Pennyworth, the upcoming Batman prequel series from Epix which follows the exploits of a young Alfred.

Paetz is set to play Martha Kane, who will eventually become Martha Wayne, the wife of Thomas Wayne, mother of Bruce Wayne, and butt of many Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice jokes. Ellerby meanwhile is set for a recurring role as a character known only as The Queen.

Taking place in the 1960s, Pennyworth sees Alfred, Thomas Wayne and two of Alfred’s closest friends, Trinidadian Marcus “Bazza” Barrington and Scotsman Wallace “Dave Boy” MacDuff, taking on the villainous Raven Society, led by the mysterious Lord Hardwood and his sadistic henchwoman, Bet Sykes.

Jack Bannon (The Imitation Game) stars in the title role as young Alfred while the rest of the Pennyworth cast includes Ben Aldridge (Fleabag) as Thomas Wayne, Ryan Fletcher (Outlander) and Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Casualty) as Alfred’s military buddies Dave Boy and Bazza, Jason Flemyng (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, X-Men: First Class) as Lord Hardwood, Paloma Faith (Youth) as Bet Sykes, and Polly Walker (Rome) as Peggy Sykes.
