Description of the Star Wars: Episode IX footage screened for Disney shareholders

March 9, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

On Thursday, The Walt Disney Company held a shareholders event, during which the House of Mouse offered investors a glimpse of several of its big upcoming releases.

In addition to two scenes from Avengers: Endgame [read a description here], Disney also showed off the very first footage from December’s Star Wars: Episode IX, and details of what was on display have now made their way online.

The footage was described as a “sizzle”, mixing sequences from the movie with behind-the-scenes material, including shots of Rey, Finn and Poe in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, Rey using Chewbacca’s bowcaster, an unmasked Kylo Ren looking at Darth Vader’s mangled helmet in a room described as similar to Vader’s meditation chamber from Empire, and a very brief glimpse of the returning Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian.

We saw a blockade runner in an abandoned looking hangar. An explosion knocking Stormtroopers in a starship hangar bay. Kylo Ren in a white room looking at the Vader helmet. Rey, Finn, Poe in Falcon cockpit.

The footage sounds similar to the sizzle reels that Lucasfilm released for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, so perhaps this is something we’ll get to see for ourselves during Star Wars Celebration – hopefully in addition to the first full trailer.
