Rumour: A female-fronted Rush Hour reboot in the works

March 11, 2019 by Gary Collinson

It seems that the Rush Hour franchise may be set to go down the Ghostbusters and Ocean’s 8 route , with That Hashtag Show reporting that a female-fronted reboot is apparently in development at STX Entertainment.

The site claims that while details on the new project are scarce, the studio has already offered the Jackie Chan role to actress Bingbing Li, whose credits include Resident Evil: Retribution, Transformers: Age of Extinction and The Meg.

A fourth instalment in the Rush Hour movie franchise has been teased for several years now, with both Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker suggesting at various points that a script has been settled upon. However, Rush Hour 4 appears to be in limbo at present following the various misconduct allegations aimed at director Brett Ratner, who is no longer thought to be attached to the proposed sequel.

Should this Rush Hour rumour prove true, it will become the second gender-swapped buddy cop reboot in the works in Hollywood, with Sony said to want Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) for their female-led 21 Jump Street relaunch.
