Avengers: Endgame director on a possible meeting between Captain America and Red Skull

May 2, 2019 by Samuel Brace

What would have happened if Captain America and Red Skull were reunited in Avengers: Endgame? Director Joe Russo has his say.

There was a lot to enjoy about Avengers: Endgame but one of the most fun elements of the film was getting to relive certain moments from the franchise and seeing characters meet once again after so many years.

One meeting that didn’t take place, however, though it certainly could have, was between Captain America and Red Skull, with the latter still guarding the Soul Stone. However, with Steve returning the Infinity Stones to their original timelines at the end of the movie, co-director Joe Russo has explained during a Q&A what would likely have happened when Cap ventured to Vormir:

“Red Skull would probably put the soul stone back to its location, and wait for the next unfortunate stone seeker to make sacrifice. Cap and Red Skull probably won’t fight. It’s because it’s his mission to return the stone to its original place. The Red Skull is also no longer the same Red Skull from FA. He is more like a ghost, you could almost say he’s a completely different entity now. He only exists to guard the stone, his past conscious may or may not exist anymore.”

So, from the sounds of it, there’s a good chance that Red Skull wouldn’t have even remembered Cap, let alone show any animosity towards him. Still, would you have liked to have seen this reunion? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter @flickeringmyth…
