Bill Skarsgard reveals how Pennywise has changed for It: Chapter Two

May 10, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Bill Skarsgard, who stars as Pennywise in It: Chapter Two, has revealed how the evil villain has changed since the first film.

Fans are starting to get pretty excited about It: Chapter Two, the sequel to 2017’s smash hit Stephen King adaptation It. The next movie is set 27 years after the first installment, with our heroes returning as adults to once again do battle with Pennywise.

Of course, a lot has changed in this time and Bill Skarsgard, the actor behind the infamous clown, has spoken to Entertainment Weekly about what this means for Pennywise: “He’s been doing this forever really, so he doesn’t change in the sense that you would look differently. He looks however he wants to look for any particular prey at the time, but I do think there’s a change.

“The arc of the first movie is that he, for the first time, experiences fear himself. His last line — ‘Fear…’ — is him experiencing it for the first time, and he’s sort of shocked and perplexed and surprised. Like, what is this?

“He’s inflicted fear on his prey, and he’s very focused on fear, but he’s never experienced it himself. Now he’s experienced something that he has been inflicting on others and … there’s a shift leading into the second movie.

“It fuels hatred and anger towards the kids, who will be adults in this one, so I think there might be an even more vicious Pennywise. He’s really going after it.”

This all certainly sounds tantalizing for fans of the first movie and, of course, the source material. We will have to wait and see just what Pennywise has in store for us when the movie releases later this year.

It: Chapter Two will see Bill Skarsgard reprising his role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, while Jessica Chastain (Beverly), James McAvoy (Bill), Bill Hader (Richie), James Ransone (Eddie), Andy Bean (Stanley), Jay Ryan (Ben) and Isaiah Mustafa (Mike) star as the adult versions of The Losers Club. Young stars Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Jack Dylan Grazer and Chosen Jacobs are also set to reprise their roles from the first movie in flashback sequences.

It: Chapter Two  is set for release on September 6th.
