Lionsgate enlists Fede Alvarez to assist Doug Liman with Chaos Walking reshoots

May 5, 2019 by Gary Collinson

THR is reporting that Lionsgate has enlisted Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe and The Girl in the Spider’s Web director Fede Alvarez to assist Doug Liman on reshoots on the troubled sci-fi movie Chaos Walking.

Last week it was announced that “additional photography” was underway on Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley-headlined adaptation of Patrick Ness’ YA novel at a cost in excess of $15 million, after studio executives deemed Liman’s original cut “unreleasable”.

The THR article states that Liman remains in control of the project and is directing the reshoots. However, Alvarez has reportedly provided Liman with extensive notes and the two worked together to plot new material. His role is said to be that of an on-set “consultant” for the duration of the three week shoot.

Chaos Walking sees Tom Holland as Tom Hewitt, who lives on the distant planet of New World—a new hope for humanity until struck by “The Noise,” a virus which inflicts immersive visions of ones’ every thought. The cacophony drives many mad until Todd makes a hidden, silent discovery: there is a girl named Viola (Daisy Ridley), who may be the key to unlocking New World’s many layered secrets.

Featuring in the cast of Chaos Walking alongside Holland and Ridley are Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy), Cynthia Erivo (Widows), David Oyelowo (Selma) and Nick Jonas (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle). It was originally slated for release this past March, and is now said to be targeting a 2020 date.
