James Franco and Dave Franco producing Masters of Doom TV pilot

June 29, 2019 by Gary Collinson

USA Network has granted a pilot order to a TV adaptation of David Kushner’s book Masters of Doom, which details the true story of the creation of the video game phenomenon Doom.

Masters of Doom will tell the true story of John Carmack and John Romero, two computer geniuses who, along with a group of rebellious misfits, created one of the most successful and influential video games of all time with the iconic first-person shooter Doom.

According to Variety, James Franco and Dave Franco will executive produce the pilot through their Ramona Films production company, and the idea is that should it make it to series the drama would take on an anthology format, with each season exploring different seminal moments in video game history.

Tom Bissell, co-author of The Disaster Artist, is set to write and showrun Masters of Doom, having previously written for hit video game franchises such as Battlefield and Uncharted.
