HBO renews The Righteous Gemstones for second season

September 10, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Less than a month after its premiere, HBO has announced that it has renewed Danny McBride’s televangelist comedy series The Righteous Gemstones for a second season.

“Danny McBride, Jody Hill and David Gordon Green are among our favorite collaborators and we’re thrilled that their take on a family comedy has been met with such enthusiasm,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming. “We cannot wait to share the next steps in the Gemstone family’s epic journey. Hallelujah!”

The Righteous Gemstones is the third HBO series from McBride, Hill and Green after Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals, and revolves around the Gemstones, a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work.

Along with McBride, The Righteous Gemstones features a cast that includes John Goodman, Edi Patterson, Adam Devine, Walton Goggins, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz and Greg Alan Williams.
