Marvel’s New Warriors TV series has reportedly been scrapped

September 19, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Given all of of the recent movie and TV news we’ve had from both Marvel Studios and Marvel Television over the past few months – not least a full Phase Four reveal, as well as a host of new Hulu shows – there’s a decent chance you may have forgotten about the planned New Warriors series – and now it seems Marvel has too.

According to Geeks Worldwide, Marvel Television has now scrapped its plans for the show, which would have been a live-action comedy series featuring the characters of Mister Immortal, Squirrel Girl, Night Thrasher, Speedball, Microbe and Debrii, having failed to find a new home for the property.

Said pilot, produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios, was shot back in 2017 after New Warriors received a ten-episode series order from Freeform, which intended on launching the series in 2018. Despite it reportedly testing through the roof, Freeform was unable to find room in its schedule for the series and so it was shopped to other Disney-owned networks, albeit unsuccessfully.

The pilot for New Warriors starred Derek Theler (Craig Hollis/Mister Immortal), Milana Vayntrub (Doreen Green/Squirrel Girl), Jeremy Tardy (Dwayne Taylor/Night Thrasher), Calum Worthy (Robbie Baldwin/Speedball), Matthew Moy (Zach Smith/Microbe) and Kate Comer (Deborah Fields/Debrii). Here’s a look at the cast along with showrunner Kevin Biegel as they initially reacted to the news that Freeform was passing on the show…
