Netflix cancels Messiah after a single season

March 30, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Messiah actor Wil Traval has announced on Instagram that Netflix has cancelled its controversial drama series Messiah after a single season.

“It’s a very sad day today,” wrote Traval. “I have just received news from Netflix that there will be no season 2 of #messiah I wanted to say to all the fans thank you for your support and love. I wish things were different.”

Created by Michael Petroni, the series revolves around a CIA officer (Michelle Monaghan) who is investigating a charismatic man called al-Masih (Mehdi Dehbi), who is either the Messiah, or a deceptive con artist.

Messiah courted controversy, with some Muslim audiences reacting negatively to the trailer, and The Royal Film Commission of Jordan requested that the series not be shown in the country, despite it being partially filmed in the country.
