Tenet’s Michael Caine jokes Christopher Nolan has to cast him in movies even if there are no parts for him

April 1, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Michael Caine has joked that Christopher Nolan has to find a place for him in his films even if there aren’t any obvious ones available.

Over the years, acting legend Michael Caine has become a regular fixture of Christoper Nolan’s films, appearing (in some form or another) in every of the director’s movies since Batman Begins. A trend that continues with Nolan’s latest, Tenet.

Caine says that Nolan considers him his lucky charm and that the director has no choice but to cast him. Speaking to The Hindu (via ComicBook.com), Caine said:

“All the films I have made with him have raked in over a billion dollars. So he has to have me in a film even if he has no part for me. In Dunkirk, I was only a voice-over and I got billing in the credit title.”

Perhaps it was Caine’s lack of physical appearance which meant Dunkirk didn’t quite match the box office take of other recent Nolan hits – the film still managed to nab Nolan an Oscar nomination, however.

Tenet is set for release on July 17th and features a cast that includes John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.
