David Arquette would love to see Hayden Panettiere return as Kirby in Scream 5

August 28, 2020 by Liam Waddington

One of the best new characters introduced in Scream 4 was Kirby Reed, played by Hayden Panettiere, and it seems like one star would be pleased to see her return for the next instalment.

In an interview with Hollywood Life, Scream star David Arquette said that he’d love to see Panettiere’s Kirby make a comeback for the upcoming fifth instalment by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

“I love Hayden. I think she’s a tremendous person and actress, and I’d love to see her back,” Arquette said.

However, fans of the Scream franchise may be aware that Hayden Panettiere returning as Kirby is unlikely as she was seemingly killed off after repeatedly being stabbed in the stomach at the penultimate showdown with Ghostface.

The cast of Scream 5 so far includes a returning David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who will be reprising their roles of Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers respectively, as well as Jenna Ortega (You, Jane the Virgin) and Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) in as-yet-undisclosed roles. Although she hasn’t officially announced her return yet, both Neve Campbell and the directors have confirmed conversations have happened regarding reprising her role as Sidney Prescott.

Scream 5 is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock). The original writer of Scream, Kevin Williamson, will be returning as an executive producer alongside the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella.
