Jensen Ackles joins the cast of The Boys Season 3 as Soldier Boy

Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is set to reteam with showrunner Eric Kripke as the actor has been cast in the third season of Amazon’s The Boys.

Ackles will portray Soldier Boy aka the original superhero in the gritty superhero drama who fought in World War II and later became the first super celebrity and a mainstay of American culture for decades.

“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” said Eric Kripke in a statement. “I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys.’”

Ackles isn’t the only Supernatural star to be circling a role in the Amazon superhero series as Kripke – who also served as a writer on the hit CW series – has previously confirmed he has approached Jeffrey Dean Morgan to join the cast but couldn’t confirm anything officially yet due to the actor’s commitments to The Walking Dead.

The Boys features a cast that includes Karl Urban (Thor: Ragnarok), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Laz Alonso (Traffik), Antony Starr (American Gothic), Dominique McElligott (The Last Tycoon), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Erin Moriarty (True Detective), Jessie T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence), Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas), and Nathan Mitchell (iZombie). New additions to the cast for the second season include Aya Cash (You’re the Worst), Patton Oswalt (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Timeless stars Goran Visnjic and Claudia Doumit.
