Enchanted sequel Disenchanted starring Amy Adams coming to Disney+

December 11, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The fan-favorite Disney film, Enchanted, is finally getting its sequel. During the historic Disney Investor’s Day, it was announced that long-rumoured sequel, titled Disenchanted, is finally moving ahead and will be released on Disney+.

Amy Adams will reprise the role of Giselle, the princess who escaped her animated world and found her way into the real world. There’s no word on whether Patrick Dempsey will reprise his role from the first film, though.

The first Enchanted movie, released in 2007, was looked at as a self-aware parody of Disney’s own animated princess musicals. The fairytale-like story followed a cartoon princess who is submerged in modern-day New York City. It found great success, grossing over $340 million worldwide. It would also go on to be nominated for a record-breaking three Oscars in the Best Song category for Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz’s tunes “Happy Working Song,” “So Close,” and “That’s How You Know.”

Disney Studios President of Production Sean Bailey announced that Adam Shankman is attached to direct, but there no details on who will pen the songs this time. Could Menken and Schwartz return or could new Disney favorites, Pasek and Paul, tackle this project?
