Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation receiving prequel comic book series

April 24, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Mattel and Dark Horse Comics have announced the upcoming launch of the four-issue miniseries Masters of the Universe: Revelation, which will serve as a prequel to the upcoming animated series of the same name from Kevin Smith, Mattel Television and Netflix.

The story for the miniseries has been conceived by Masters of the Universe: Revelation executive producers Smith and Rob David (DC’s Masters of the Universe comic book) and writer Tim Sheridan (Superman: Man of Tomorrow) with art from Mindy Lee (Crimson Lotus). The official description reads:

Following a vicious Orlax attack on his father King Randor, He-Man learns the creature is linked to the origin of the sword of power. To save Randor and put an end to the chaos, He-Man embarks on an epic journey that pits him against his longtime foes Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, and sees Teela take the reins of a powerful legacy.

“When the Masters of the Universe franchise first launched nearly 40 years ago, each action figure came with a comic book to enable children to further explore the world of Eternia,” said Rob David. “Now, in partnership with Dark Horse, we will go back to our roots to set-up the upcoming Masters of the Universe: Revelation, television series with a world-shattering comic book tale.”

In addition to the above cover by Stjepan Sejic (He-Man: The Eternity War), Masters of the Universe: Revelation #1 will also be available with a variant cover from Hellboy creator Mike Mignola:

Masters of the Universe: Revelation #1 will go on sale on July 7th.
