Renée Zellweger tees up golf comedy The Back Nine

April 14, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Successful golf movies are as rare as a hole-in-one on the 17th at TPC Sawgrass (one for the golf fans there), but Renée Zellweger has decided to take a swing at one by signing up to star in The Back Nine.

Fresh off the back of her Academy Award win for Judy, Deadline reports that Zellweger will tee up The Back Nine for Sex and the City writer Michael Patrick King, who has written the sports-comedy with Jhoni Marchinko and Krista Smith.

According to the story, Zellweger plays Casey Jones, who gave up a golf career so that her husband could have one. When she wakes up one morning to find her 25-year old marriage in free fall and her son off to college, she dusts off the clubs she tossed aside years ago in an effort to finally turn pro and redefine the “back nine” of her life.

It appears that the former Bridget Jones has some form with the clubs, with King saying she is “a stunning actress with incredible range, she can make you laugh and cry and has a great golf swing. What more could anyone want?”

Let’s hope it’s more Tin Cup than The Legend of Bagger Vance. Don’t forget to let us know what you think by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
