The CW boss says Powerpuff pilot “was just a miss”

May 28, 2021 by Gary Collinson

If you’ve seen or read about any of the leaked script pages, then you’ll already have a pretty good idea why The CW opted against moving to series with its live-action Powerpuff Girls pilot, what with… well, just see for yourself here…

https://twitter.com/xaviersonline/status/1397115277167403011

As understandable as the decision was not to progress to series, The CW has decided to rework and repilot Powerpuff with the same creative team of Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, as well as retaining cast members Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault, and Donald Faison as Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Professor Utonium.

Now, speaking to Deadline, The CW boss Mark Pedowitz has briefly discussed the network’s decision, stating that: “The reason we do pilots is sometimes things miss, this was just a miss. We believe in the cast completely, we believe in Diablo and Heather, the writers… in this case, the pilot didn’t work.”

“[It] might have felt a little campy,” he continued. “You learn things and you test things out. In this case we felt let’s take a step back and go back to the drawing board because this is a powerful property, it has engaged a lot of interest and we want to get it right before we put it out.”

Are you holding out any hope for The CW to “get it right” with Powerpuff? Let us know on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

Powerpuff starred Dove Cameron (Descendants) as Bubbles, Yana Perrault (Jagged Little Pill) as Buttercup, Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Blossom, Donald Faison (Scrubs) as Professor Utonium, Nicholas Podany (Hart of Dixie) as Mojo Jojo Jr, and Robyn Lively (Light As A Feather) as Sara Bellum, with the original series’ Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) once again serving as narrator.
