Ava DuVernay’s DC series Naomi gets a full-season order at The CW

May 25, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Earlier in the year Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of DC’s New Gods was cruelly shelved by Warner Bros., but now she has been given the green-light to yet another of her DC adaptations with the news that The CW has granted a full-series order for superhero drama Naomi.

The critically acclaimed 13th director took to Twitter to celebrate and shared a new look at Kaci Walfall’s titular hero, as well as a few behind the scenes shots. DuVernay wrote the script for the series alongside Jill Blankenship, while the pilot was directed and co-executive produced by Amanda Marsalis.

Naomi “follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.”

The origin story of a new hero. NAOMI is now officially a series at @TheCW! Many hands/hearts went into bringing this saga to the screen. Thanks to my creative ace Jill Blankenship, the teams at @ARRAYNow + @warnerbrostv, and the extraordinary @kaciwalfall, our Naomi. You shine! pic.twitter.com/gUfh8S5u5k

Along with Kaci Walfall, the Naomi pilot will star Alexander Wraith (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Cranston Johnson (P-Valley), Camila Moreno (Lost Beyond the Stars), Barry Watson (7th Heaven), Mouzam Makkar (The Fix), Mary-Charles Jones (Kevin Can Wait), Aidan Gemme (Finding Neverland), Daniel Puig (The System), and Will Meyers (Bad Education).
