Back in December of last year, Warner Bros. announced a new strategy for its DC properties which would see six movies released annually – four theatrical titles alongside two HBO Max Originals focussing “riskier characters” including the previously announced Batgirl and Static Shock films.
Well, it seems we can add another project to the direct-to-streaming list, as The Los Angeles Times has confirmed that the upcoming Blue Beetle movie from director Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) will also be part of the HBO Max slate.
Details on the film are scarce, but we do know that the movie will focus on the Jamie Reyes incarnation of the character, a Mexican-American teenager who is provided with alien armour after a mysterious scarab binds itself to his spine.
Filming on Blue Beetle is slated to get underway in the fall, with Soto directing from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala).
