Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara set for Lynne Ramsay’s Polaris

June 24, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Director Lynne Ramsay has revealed that she is set to reunite with her You Were Never Really Here star Joaquin Phoenix for her next film Polaris, which will see Phoenix starring alongside his real-life partner Rooney Mara.

“He’s crazy, but he’s the best actor I’ve ever met,” Ramsay told Spanish outlet El Espanol (via Dark Horizons). “Everything he does on the set has a reason. It’s much more difficult when you come up with an original idea like this, but it’s impossible not to get excited when you’re preparing a movie with Joaquin.”

Oscar-winner Phoenix is currently shooting Disappointment Blvd. for Hereditary director Ari Aster, while Mara will next be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley, which is set to open in December.

As for Ramsay, the filmmaker signed on to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon late last year, and is also attached to an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s short story Stone Mattress. Where Polaris fits into this schedule, we shall have to wait and see.
