Katherine Waterson cast in Damien Chazelle’s Babylon

June 2, 2021 by Ricky Church

Damien Chazelle has cast another role in his upcoming 1920s Hollywood drama Babylon as Deadline reports that Katherine Waterson (Fantastic Beasts) is set to star in the period drama.

Waterson joins a cast that includes Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad), Brad Pitt (Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood), Diego Calva (Unstoppable), Jovan Adepo (The Stand) and Li Jun Li (Wu Assassins).

Babylon is described as an R-rated period drama and is set during the defining era in Hollywood when the industry turned from silent film to talkies. Babylon was shopped around shortly after another classic cinema-set film Mank was greenlit by Netflix.

Waterson recently starred in the HBO miniseries The Third Day and romantic drama The World to Come. She will reprise her role in the third Fantastic Beasts film as Auror Tina Goldstein alongside returning actors Eddie Redmayne, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Jude Law and Callum Turner. Mads Mikkelsen will replace Johnny Depp as the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald for the third film and rest of the series.

Paramount acquired the rights to Babylon in 2019 and is targeting a Christmas Day 2022 limited release followed by a wide release on January 6th, 2023.
