Riri Williams to debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ahead of Ironheart series

August 20, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Riri Williams, the young black girl who dons an Iron Man-style suit as the superhero Ironheart, is coming to the MCU, and her arrival is going to be earlier than fans had expected.

Straight from the mouth of Kevin Feige, Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams will make her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Thorne was set to make her first appearance in the upcoming Ironheart series on Disney+, but will instead feature in the Black Panther sequel before launching into her solo show.

Feige took to ComicBook.com to drop this news, letting fans know about Dominique Thorne’s upcoming role: “We’re shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first. She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series.”

In Marvel’s comics, Riri Williams is a 15-year-old MIT student who reverse engineers Iron Man’s armor in order to create her own suit of armor. With help from Tony Stark, she becomes the superhero Ironheart. The character made her first appearance in Marvel Comics in 2016.

While plot details for Wakanda Forever are currently being kept under wraps, Throne joins Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, and Angela Bassett, who are all expected to reprise their respective roles from the original film. Director Ryan Coogler is returning to helm the sequel from his screenplay.

SEE ALSO: Black Panther 2 has had at least five scripts, says Angela Bassett

Ironheart on Disney+ currently does not have a release date. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on July 8nd, 2022.
