HBO Max orders Dead Boy Detectives DC pilot

September 4, 2021 by Ricky Church

HBO Max has ordered a pilot for Dead Boy Detectives from Greg Berlanti (The Flash), Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol) and Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant) according to Variety.

Dead Boy Detectives is based off Neil Gaiman’s DC comic book series. The adaptation will follow the “Dead Boy Detectives — Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine — who decided not to enter the afterlife in order to stay on earth and investigate crimes involving the supernatural.”

The Dead Boy Detectives pilot will be written by Yockey. He will also executive produce alongside Carver and Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden through Berlanti Productions. A director is not yet attached to the pilot, but it will begin shooting in November.

Interestingly, the Dead Boy Detectives are going to be introduced in the upcoming third season of Doom Patrol with Sebastian Croft (Penny Dreadful) and Ty Tennant (War of the Worlds) portraying Rowland and Paine respectively. Whether or not the two are attached to the pilot with Dead Boy Detectives spinning out of Doom Patrol remains to be seen.
