Watch two teasers for Mamoru Hosoda’s critically acclaimed animation Belle

October 13, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Currently screening at the 2021 BFI London Film Festival off the back of some stellar reviews from the Cannes Film Festival, where critics called it “Beauty and the Beast meets The Matrix”, GKIDS Studio have revealed that Mamoru Hosoda’s critically acclaimed Belle will be out in January next year, and have released these stunning new trailers to announce it.

Hosoda is responsible for Wolf Children, Summer Wars, and the Oscar-nominated Mirai, and Belle looks to continue his tradition for emotionally rich storytelling through stunning animation; check out the teasers below…

Suzu is a 17-year-old high school student living in a rural village with her father. For years, she has only been a shadow of herself. One day, she enters “U,” a virtual world of 5 billion members on the Internet. There, she is not Suzu anymore but Belle, a world-famous singer. She soon meets with a mysterious creature. Together, they embark on a journey of adventures, challenges and love, in their quest to become who they truly are.

Belle will be released in US cinemas on January 14th 2022.
