Peter Dinklage slams Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remake, calls it “f*cking backwards”

January 25, 2022 by Liam Waddington

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage has slammed Disney’s upcoming Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs live-action remake, calling it “fucking backwards.”

During an interview on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast (via IndieWire) to promote his role in Cyrano, Dinklage praised the film’s casting of West Side Story star Rachel Zegler but called out the studio for missing the larger issue of the way the original film portrays disabled people.

“Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. You’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me,” the actor told Maron. “You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that fucking backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the fuck are you doing man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

However, Dinklage continued to clarify that he isn’t totally against the idea of a newer take on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as long as the problematic aspects are addressed, stating,  “I think also, if you tell the story of Snow White with the most fucked up, progressive spin on it? Let’s do it. All in. But, I just don’t know.”

The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs live-action remake is set to be directed by Marc Webb, director of 500 Days of Summer, which features a script worked on by Greta Gerwig, with songs by the La La Land team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film is set to star Zegler opposite Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
