Filming wraps on Kandahar starring Gerard Butler, first look images released

February 11, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Having just wrapped production after a seven-week shoot in Saudi Arabia’s desert region of AlUla and Jeddah, Thunder Road Films and Capstone have shared two first-look images from Kandahar, the latest collaboration between director Ric Roman Waugh and star Gerard Butler.

The action thriller sees Butler starring as Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative, stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. He must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator played by Navid Negahban (Aladdin), to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding the elite special forces tasked with hunting them down.

Kandahar marks the latest team-up between Butler and Waugh after Angel Has Fallen and Greenland. The pair are also set to reunite for a sequel to the latter entitled Greenland: Migration, which is slated to shoot later this year. As for Kandahar, the film is currently undated.
