HBO Max activates Wonder Twins movie from Warner Bros. and DC Films

February 20, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Wonder Twins movie, activate! Yes, the young alien siblings who found themselves under the tutelage of the Super Friends in the late 1970s are heading back to the screen, this time with a live-action movie for HBO Max.

THR reports that Black Adam screenwriter Adam Sztykiel has been tapped by Warner Bros. and DC Films to write and direct the film, which is being produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill Entertainment (Twilight, The Maze Runner).

Making their debut in Hanna-Barbera’s classic The All-New Super Friends Hour, Zan and Jayna – and their pet monkey Gleek – hail from the planet Exxor and were originally depicted as superheroes in training alongside Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Robin and Aquaman. Zan is able to transform into any state of water, while his sister Jayna is able to become any animal, powers the duo access by touching hands and declaring “Wonder Twin powers, activate!”.

Following their Super Friends exploits, Zan and Jayna eventually found their way into the DC comic book universe, and they have since popped up for guest appearances and cameos in various animated projects, along with a live-action outing in Smallville where they were played by played by David Gallagher and Allison Scagliotti.

Specific plot details on Wonder Twins are being kept under wraps (as is its status with regards to the DC Extended Universe), but the project joins a growing list of HBO Max Original DC movies which includes the currently-in-production Batgirl and the Birds of Prey spinoff Black Canary.
