Christina Ricci returns to The Addams Family for Netflix’s Wednesday series

March 22, 2022 by Ricky Church

Netflix’s upcoming The Addams Family series Wednesday will have a very anticipated family reunion as Christina Ricci will return to the Addams over 30 years after starring as Wednesday in the 1990s feature films, according to Deadline.

Ricci starred as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family and its sequel The Addams Family Values from director Barry Sonnenfeld and is one of Ricci’s most iconic roles in her career.

Ricci will have a series regular role in Wednesday with the details being kept under wraps, but she will be a new character and, unfortunately for Addams Family fans, not an older Wednesday as Deadline notes.

Ricci’s casting came in the wake of Thora Birch’s exit from the series and Ricci’s character will replace Birch’s as they are “similar.” Ricci has also already been working on the series for several weeks as production is set to wrap by the end of March.

Wednesday will serve as a sequel to the classic show, following Wednesday Addams’ time as a student at the aforementioned Nevermore Academy. Jenna Ortega leads the cast as Wednesday Addams alongside Luis Guzman as Gomez and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia.

The official description for the series describes it as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ (Jenna Ortega) years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Wednesday has been written by showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville), with Tim Burton directing and executive producing.
