Hellraiser reboot rated R for violence, gore and graphic nudity

August 20, 2022 by Gary Collinson

In what’s probably the least-unexpected piece of news you’ll read this week, it has been confirmed that the upcoming reboot of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser has been given an R-rating for its release on Hulu.

The new film is being directed by David Bruckner (The Night House, The Ritual) from a script by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (Siren, The Night House), with Clive Barker – director of the original film and author of the novella The Hellbound Heart – attached as a producer.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Bruckner’s Hellraiser has received its R-rating for franchise staples such as “strong bloody horror violence and gore, language throughout, some sexual content, and brief graphic nudity.”

Described as “loyal, yet evolved re-imagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic,” the new Hellraiser will see Sense8 actress Jamie Clayton in the Pinhead role and follows “a young woman must confront the sadistic, supernatural forces behind an enigmatic puzzlebox responsible for her brother’s disappearance.”

Alongside Jamie Clayton, the cast of Hellraiser includes Odessa A’zion (Grand Army), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Adam Faison (Into the Dark: Midnight Kiss), Drew Starkey (The Devil All the Time), Selina Lo (Boss Level), Goran Višnjić (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Hiam Abbass (Blade Runner 2049) and Aoife Hinds (Derry Girls).

Hellraiser is expected to premiere on Hulu at some point later this year.
