Matthew McConaughey’s soccer film Dallas Sting is shown the red card just weeks before filming kicks off

September 15, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Dallas Sting had an inspirational true story and a line-up that would make Paris St. Germain feel tin-pot by comparison, but it appears that the Matthew McConaughey headlined soccer movie has been hauled off the pitch by Skydance just weeks before filming was due to kick off.

Starring Matthew McConaughey and Booksmart‘s Kaitlyn Dever, and directed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s Kari Skogland, Dallas Sting was to be based on the true story of a Dallas girls soccer team that travelled to China and, against the odds, defeated some of the best women’s teams in the world. The Academy Award winning Dallas Buyers Club actor was set to play coach Bill Kinder.

However, with a reported six weeks to go until shooting commenced, The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that Skydance have pulled the plug because “producers received disturbing allegations surrounding aspects of the true story on which the drama was based.” According to sources an investigation into the allegations has forced them to scrap the film.

Dallas Sting had a script by GLOW creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch and was almost fully cast.

Let us know whether you’re disappointed that this inspirational story will no longer play out on the big screen by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
