Netflix’s The Swimmers trailer depicts inspirational true story of Syrian refugee siblings

September 2, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Looking to make a splash when it hits the festival circuit this fall is Sally El-Hosaini’s The Swimmers, a true story about two sisters – Yusra Mardini (Nathalie Issa) and Sara Mardini (Manal Issa) – who journey from war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Charting their training and competing days in Syria, to the daunting experience of taking a lifeboat with a group of people when fleeing their home country, and culminating in them competing in Brazil, you can check out the emotional teaser trailer below…

From war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics, two young sisters embark on a harrowing journey as refugees, putting both their hearts and champion swimming skills to heroic use. Based on a true story.

The Swimmers launches at both the Toronto International Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival before hitting Netflix and select cinemas on November 26th.
