Hocus Pocus 3 is in the works at Disney

June 5, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Prepare for more witchiness from The Sanderson Sisters. After returning in 2022 with a long-awaited sequel, we now have confirmation that a third Hocus Pocus is currently being developed.

Walt Disney Studios Executive Sean Bailey was profiled in a new New York Times article. During the interview, he tells the publication that a third Hocus Pocus is in the works. Bailey says, “Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening.”

This is the first official confirmation of a third installment, following the 2022 Disney+ original sequel. The Sanderson Sisters returned in the sequel, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy returning. While the sequel was a massive success for the streaming service, which became the streamer’s most-viewed movie, it proved to have mixed reactions from longtime fans and critics.

No timeline for the film’s release is set as the project is in early development. At the time, there’s no casting information and no direct confirmation on The Sanderson Sisters’ return.

It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now Hallow’s to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.

Directed by Anne Fletcher, Hocus Pocus 2 sees the return of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Doug Jones alongside newcomers Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belisa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Paige Henderson, and Nina Kitchen.

Hocus Pocus 2 is streaming now on Disney+.
