Martin Freeman’s role in Captain America: Civil War revealed?

June 3, 2015 by admin

It was revealed a couple of months ago that Martin Freeman (Sherlock) was joining the cast of Captain America: Civil War, but didn’t announce in what capacity. Well, those rumour-mongers over at Latino-Review seem to have the inside scoop.

According to the website, Freeman will play Edward Chase, the prime minister of England in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Whatever mission goes south for Captain America’s Avengers at the beginning of the movie will involve a number of British soldiers, so Chase (Freeman) will be responsible for upping the pressure on the government side, even though it is an international government body,” the website writes. “Chase will be arguing for a better world-wide plan to keep The Avengers in check.”

The website also claims that the person on the other end of the phone with Ulysses Klaw in Avengers: Age of Ultron was none other than Martin Freeman’s character, and he will play a villain role in both Captain America: Winter Soldier and Black Panther in 2018. Latino-Review do stress that this is 100% UNCONFIRMED, so make of that what you will.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War is set for release on April 29th 2016 in the UK and May 6th 2016 in the States, with Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) directing a cast that includes Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (The Vision), Don Cheadle (James Rhondes/War Machine), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter) and Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow/Crossbones) and William Hurt (General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross) alongside new additions Chadwick Boseman (Get on Up) as T’Challa/Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl (Rush) as Baron Zemo, and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
